Though CNET News.com's Daniel Terdiman already covered the first commercial flight of the Airbus A380 in his blog , as a fellow aviation nut, I just had to weigh in on the aircraft's interior. This morning I drooled over the photos taken by Luke Anderson from ZDNet Australia on his tour of the Singapore Airlines A380 in Sydney . The pictures of the economy class section are nice, but let's be honest, who really likes economy class? Frankly, I'm more excited about those luxury suites in first class. And who wouldn't be?

The luxury suites are self-contained compartments on the lower deck of the plane. Though the roof is exposed the suites have sliding doors to keep out nosy neighbors. Inside each suite is a leather seat that coverts to a perfectly flat bed. And if you book adjoining compartments, the center divider can be lowered to make adjoining beds . On-demand entertainment is shown on a 23-inch LCD while additional amenities include a vanity mirror, storage galore and all the food and drink you can imagine.

Sadly, I doubt I'll get to fly in such luxury for some time; a random fare check showed a price of $7,500 for a round trip Singapore to Sydney ticket. So far, my only view of the A380 was from the ground when it made a low pass over San Francisco earlier this month. I suppose I could snag an 34-inch-wide expansive business class seat if I'm lucky; those are a more reasonable $3,700. But as I said earlier this year I'd sit on a cardboard box just for the privilege of riding on the world's newest airliner. And I say that as a loyal 747 fan.

Facebook isn't too happy with Gawker Media founder Nick Denton over some screenshots of a member's profile that he posted on Gawker.com on Tuesday, Portfolio.com reports . The social-networking site reportedly plans to send a warning letter to the New York-based digital-media entrepreneur citing several terms-of-service violations--one more, and he's out.

Facebook representatives were not immediately available for comment.

On Tuesday, Denton--who took over as managing editor of Gawker.com this month after several staff departures--posted a bit of an expose on 25-year-old Emily Brill, daughter of New York publishing figure Steve Brill. Screenshots of the younger Brill's Facebook profile, featuring glamorous photos of a yachting trip to the British Virgin Islands, as well as excited "status" messages about an impending trip to the Caribbean luxury getaway of St. Barth's, were juxtaposed with an older photograph of the Brown graduate when she was significantly heavier.

It was just plain mean--meaner than the time when Slate revealed via Facebook screenshots that Rudy Giuliani's daughter was a Barack Obama fan --but that's Gawker's style, and that's what made the media gossip blog rise to fame.

Facebook, however, considers it a violation of the site's terms of use, and according to the Portfolio.com blog post, the social network is prepared to give Denton's account the axe.

Facebook's terms of use stipulate that members "may not upload or republish site content on any Internet, intranet or extranet site or incorporate the information in any other database or compilation."

It's not clear whether Denton and Brill are "friends" on the site, or if it was even Denton who pulled the screenshots from Facebook. But both Denton and Brill are members of the New York regional network, so there is a chance that Denton would have been able to view Brill's profile even without being connected as friends.

Perhaps due to the Gawker incident, Emily Brill's Facebook profile is no longer publicly searchable. It's a pertinent lesson: without privacy controls in place, you never know who might come across your photos and personal information. Those "regional" networks are big, and they allow anyone to join; and there are, as we've seen, plenty of people on the Web who are willing to circumvent terms of service.

Facebook is notoriously protective of its user data; profiles are only visible to logged-in members who belong to common "networks" or have approved friend requests. For various reasons, accounts are likely banned all the time, but it's been only recently that we've seen some extremely high-profile Web personalities feeling the heat.

Earlier this month, blogger Robert Scoble's account was temporarily banned when he used a test script from contact management site Plaxo in an attempt to transport his Facebook contacts' information to his Plaxo account.

For the notoriously unapologetic Gawker Media, having just brushed off the dust from last week's Gizmodo video incident at the Consumer Electronics Show, this will probably just be a bump in the road--and the site's livelihood certainly doesn't depend on Facebook screenshots. The company emerged unscathed from an incident last year in which YouTube banned a Gawker-affiliated account because it had been uploading copyrighted content interspersed with Gawker ads .

But the Denton incident does raise legitimate questions for bloggers and journalists; the Gawker founder indeed went too far by posting semiprivate profile data from someone who was otherwise not a public figure, but can information found behind Facebook's login wall be used as legitimate source material? It's a debate waiting to ignite, but if Facebook has anything to say about it, user information will stay behind closed doors.

In an instant-message conversation on Wednesday, Denton passed the Portfolio blog post off as fueled by personal beef. The writer of the original story, Denton said, was "trying to get his retaliation in first, because we're working on a story about him."

Microsoft this week unveiled a new image format at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference, which it hopes will take on the ubiquitous JPEG format.

Windows Media Photo will be supported in Windows Vista and Windows XP, officials said. Microsoft boasts that its compression technology can offer better images at half the size of a JPEG file.

Publishing giant Hearst Magazines announced on Wednesday plans to acquire Answerology , a New York-based start-up that offers a question-and-answer service for relationship advice. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but PaidContent reported that it was in the seven figures.

Matthew Milner, Answerology's founder, will be brought on board Hearst as vice president of community and social media in the conglomerate's Hearst Magazines Digital Media unit.

Answerology's schtick is that it allows users to ask anonymous questions about family, marriage, dating, and other heated subjects pertaining to relationships, and those questions can be targeted toward select age groups, genders, geographic regions, and personality types

Most of the questions on Answerology, which seems to have an admirably active core community, pertain directly to relationships, like this one: "By 39 years of age, is it a little weird if a man is still single, no solid career path, not close with his family, and only a select few close friends?"

Other subjects of discussion fall more into a general "lifestyle" niche, for example, "When do you think you'll be able to retire?"

Hearst hasn't been quite as avid in the Web acquisition space as some of its publishing brethren , but it has made a few notable buys: for one, social-shopping site Kaboodle , which it purchased last year.

Even though question-and-answer sites are a dime a dozen , the lifestyle- and relationship-oriented Answerology seems like a good fit for a magazine publisher--indeed, Hearst plans to work it into the Web properties for its 15 magazine titles.

And it had a funny publishing-industry connection to begin with: founder Milner originally conceived of Answerology as a tie-in for a "romantic-comedy novel" he wrote, Guy Critical .

Intel has scores of futuristic, potentially game-changing research projects but Nehalem is bet-the-farm reality. The first Nehalem chips--and the first drops of what should become a giant revenue stream--will arrive later this year. So, it is not surprising that real silicon and real systems are starting to appear.

What is Nehalem exactly? The architecture will scale from two to eight processor cores, have faster chip-to-chip communication , do a better job of adjusting performance levels to suit power needs, and have a higher level of integration .

Other salient features include more scalable memory , the ability to do more stuff simultaneously , and new instructions to increase efficiency . Here's how Intel describes Nehalem .

Maximum PC appears to be the first to build a Nehalem "Bloomfield" desktop system for everyone to see.

The system uses a 2.93GHz Bloomfield processor and an Intel motherboard with an X58 chipset , which will is also due to ship in the fourth quarter.

The Bloomfield chip is larger than current Intel quad-core processors , according to Maximum PC . This means more fans, bigger heat sinks, and more heat to dissipate overall.

Nehalem will support faster DDR3 memory. And this points to one of Nehalem's major departures from past Intel processors: the memory controller--which talks to the DDR3 chips--is now on the processor die. Previously, this was off-chip. In short, higher levels of integration generally means higher performance.

New "overclocking features" are also offered in Nehalem, according to Maximum PC . Overclocking--running the chip faster than its rated speed--is an absolute prerequisite for gamers. Which means, of course, that initially one of Nehalem's biggest draws will be gamers.

In the more distant Nehalem future, the mobile platform has gotten a name. At this point, Intel will confirm the code name only: Calpella. But otherwise "won't comment on speculation."

Other information posted on various tech Web sites about the 2009 Nehalem mobile platform in the past few days has been in the public domain for almost a year. That is, it will have an on-die memory controller and one version of the chip will have an integrated graphics processor--which will be a first for Intel. One new twist is the timing: it may launch in the third quarter of 2009.

Norwegian researcher Jon Lech Johansen, aka DVD Jon , has found a way to activate the iPhone via Windows without subscribing to an AT&T wireless plan. After using the hack, some Internet features, such as YouTube, may still not work. What you do get is use of the wide-screen iPod and Internet access through the Safari browser.

Details can be found on Johansen's So sue me blog . There, Johansen lists several values and offsets that he says must be entered in the itunes.exe file. This requires the use of a hex editor. A new host entry must also be added to Windows. In addition, Johansen provides an application that spoofs the Apple activation center.

DVD Jon gained notoriety in 1999 for releasing the code DeCSS that decodes the content scrambling system used in DVD copy protection. As a result, Johansen was prosecuted but acquitted of charges of computer hacking even though at least two other authors of DeCSS are suspected. Johansen now lives in Norway.

Far West Rice Mills in Nelson, Calif., on Wednesday dedicated a one megawatt solar array that will provide three-fourths of its electricity.

The array is made up of 5,500 solar panels from Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics and was installed by Pacific Power Management.

Mitsubishi said that it's the largest solar-powered rice mill in the U.S.

Corporate solar installations in this range--Google's solar array at its headquarters generates 1.6 megawatts--are the biggest area for growth in the solar industry.

Corporations and agribusiness invest in these systems to get a predictable electricity price over several years, hedging against rising prices.

The Far West Rice Mills installation will deliver 1,440,000 kilowatt hours a year and qualifies for $1.8 million in rebates from Pacific Gas & Electric.
